Library 2.0 issues on agenda for AALL Annual Meeting

Pioneering ChangeYesterday I finally got around to making concrete plans for attending this summer's AALL Annual Meeting in St. Louis. While looking over the preliminary program (PDF), I noticed immediately that there's no shortage of programs on progressive library technologies. While the Library 2.0 "movement" may not have received much mainstream attention in the law library community, the tools of Library 2.0 are clearly already being embraced by a wide array of law librarians. It's a credit to AALL's planning that nearly every time period features at least one IT program.

I'm especially looking forward to Wednesday's "Technology Scouts: How to Keep Your Library and ILS Current in the IT World" presentation. One of the scheduled speakers is Plymouth State University's Casey Bisson, who for the last few months has been developing WPopac, an online library catalog interface built from scratch using the Wordpress blog platform. (This is exactly the kind of innovation to which I was referring in Monday's post on the importance of direct access to ILS data). Casey also maintains an excellent library science blog titled "Maison Bisson."

Here's a list of the sessions (and scheduled speakers) that look to be particularly Library 2.0 "friendly":
