Breaking out of traditional work conceptsSubmitted by Joshua Brauer on July 19, 2006 - 8:49am.
National Public Radio has a story this morning on Best Buy's Results Oriented Work environment. The take away is that treating employees with respect and giving them freedom to work as they work best leads to great results. The challenge for libraries and other service businesses is to find effective ways to match these flex programs with customer demand. Bookmark/Search this post with: ( categories: )

Fantastic
The other problem, of course, is convincing our managers, administrators, directors and deans that this works. Its great that this is such a great example. The best line (IMHO) from the story is that when you strip away the work day and office, performance issues become readily apparent.
On a personal level, I think sometimes I would be more productive at home. For one thing, I could work the extra one hour time I spend commuting and not affect my personal life.
This just makes so much sense to me.
Change their Minds. Change our World.
This is how I work in general and I have already received two nasty passive aggressive email admonishments from my "dean." Either you want me to be an accomplished scholar and instructor or you want me to have oodles of face time so the establishment appears to be bustling with ideas and energy....the ideas and energy that I had to abandon at the door when forced to leave their creation place. That kinda intellectual encouragement really makes ya wanna come to work.
