AALL starts this weekend!

2006 AALL Annual MeetingI've been so busy this summer teaching an online edition of Advanced Legal Research that I haven't been able to find much time to blog. As a result, I haven't properly hyped the 2006 American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Annual Meeting, starting this Sunday in St. Louis.

I first attended AALL two years ago in Boston. I had just started my job at UNLV a week earlier, and knew virtually no one in the profession. Apart from the main conference educational program, I didn't have a clue how to spend my time.

What a difference a couple of years make. This time around I can't seem to find enough free time in my calendar to do everything I want. Within a few hours of arriving in St. Louis on Saturday, I'll be heading out to dinner with some people I knew in law school at the University of Louisville.

Then Sunday, after a full day of conference sessions, I'll be attending the first meeting of the Gen X/Gen Y Caucus. (If you can't attend the meeting, stay tuned to Jim Milles's Check This Out podcast; he's planning to record the proceedings for a future broadcast.) After the meeting, I'll be heading out for a hearty meal of Bosnian food in a dine-around at Grbic led by the University of Buffalo's Jim Milles and Washington University's Aris Woodham. The evening winds up at the official conference opening event.

Come Monday evening, I've got to find a way to fit in the Blogger's gathering at Kitchen K, the Indiana University alum reception, and the big West Customer Appreciation event (though I'm not sure exactly what happened to my invitation for that soiree).

Tuesday's schedule is light by comparison. The only extracurricular event on my calendar so far is the WestPac luncheon, made especially interesting this year by the fact that the WestPac annual meeting will be held at UNLV in late September. (Be sure to check out the 2006 WestPac Annual Meeting website I've working on.)

And this doesn't even take into account all the Computing Services Special Interest Section events I plan to attend. There's the Web Development meeting on Sunday morning, the breakfast meeting on Monday morning (featuring the always interesting John Mayer of CALI), and a roundtable on organizing legal databases on library websites, also on Monday morning. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to take in Tuesday's roundtable on web site design and maintenance, but it conflicts with the WestPac luncheon. That roundtable would have been especially interesting given that I'm in the middle of a massive redesign of our library's website (due for unveiling in August). But as my superiors have already forked over the money for my spot at the WestPac lunch, that's where I have to be.

As it stands, my Tuesday evening is still open. If anyone would like to get together for dinner, feel free to drop me a line.

I plan to blog the conference much as I did CALI last month. With any luck, I'll have pictures to share this time as well.

See you in St. Louis!
